Quality on the Beefy-T seems to have diminished since I last purchased these 15 years ago. Reason why I haven't bought them in that time is because I could never find them locally when it was time to buy t-shirts, so bought acceptable substitutes instead. I much prefer to try on clothing before buying, even if it's a brand I know and sizing I'm familiar with, so have generally avoided online clothes shopping.
Recently, it was time once again to buy new t-shirts and I couldn't find anything of similar quality to what I remember of the Beefy-T, so I went ahead and ordered several online.
I will admit up front that I am rather particular about how my clothes fit. With these that I ordered, the fit itself was variable between shirts that were labeled the same size. Not by a lot, but enough that shoulders were tight on some, sleeves loose on others. There were length differences between most to where some were just below the beltline and others nearly covered my back pockets. Despite my pickiness, I could probably live with most of that, but the collars on all but two (out of 6) were really wide, thin and loose. Not at all what I personally think of in a Beefy-T. The heavy duty collar was what I always liked most about these, but based on the ones I got, there isn't any QC with regard to sewing consistency, or even using the same neckband within the Beefy-T line. The loose ones not only have wider neck openings, but the band used to make the collar is thinner as well. Seriously bad enough that it makes me wonder if Hanes uses their website to unload defectives that don't pass QC.
Like someone else said, it's not worth the time or $ to send them back, so I unloaded them on less-picky friends.
I do like the two that are actually Beefy-Ts and not just labeled as such, but I'm probably not going to gamble that I'll get good ones online next time I need t-shirts.
All that said, Hanes usually makes pretty good stuff. I'm just not buying their t-shirts online any more.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by QualityStalker Quality is measured by thickness
And density of knit fabric. Hanes Beefy T shirts have always had fantastic weight which is my #1 quality assurance factor. I am 37 years old and now 215 lbs, but I spent the first 34 years of my life as a morbidly obese individual. I was always forced to buy my clothes at Big & Tall stores, and back 20-25 years ago, the internet was not the marketplace that it is now. I remember buying my tee shirts at the local big & tall store and being given ONE brand of tee shirt, and a size 8x shirt costing me $30 back in 1992 for just a simple, solid color pocket t-shirt that had hardly any substance to the material and would be lucky to last a year. My mom & dad would have to save every penny they could just to keep me clothed in simple tee shirts. My mom got very good at making my clothes although there were still some things I had to purchase at the stores.
Enough about my past, I am so thankful now for being able to fit in normal size clothing. My love for the Hanes Beefy T shirts knows no bounds. Thickness in a shirt does a few things. One, it inspires confidence in knowing that every body part is not visible because of see-through fabric. Secondly, it provides great warmth. Third, it lets me know that my hard-earned money is going to be well-spent in a shirt that is going to be long-lasting.
Now, while I did screw up by thinking I was ready for size Large clothing and now I've got some shirts that are too small, I will absolutely not be deterred because these Hanes shirts are worth the re-ordering of size XL that I'm going to be doing when I save up some more money. I love Hanes Beefy T shirts!!!
