I wear a woman's small or medium in most clothing. I do not like Hanes women's tees. They are either too short, too fitted or too tight in the forearms. I buy Hanes men's tee (only when they're on sale) in size 2X or bigger, deconstruct them, and make my own tees that fit me. Buying a bigger size lets me straighten out the fabric grain, which is almost always crooked. I buy long sleeves to make myself 3/4 sleeve tees. I like this fabric.

Quality on the Beefy-T seems to have diminished since I last purchased these 15 years ago. Reason why I haven't bought them in that time is because I could never find them locally when it was time to buy t-shirts, so bought acceptable substitutes instead. I much prefer to try on clothing before buying, even if it's a brand I know and sizing I'm familiar with, so have generally avoided online clothes shopping.
Recently, it was time once again to buy new t-shirts and I couldn't find anything of similar quality to what I remember of the Beefy-T, so I went ahead and ordered several online.
I will admit up front that I am rather particular about how my clothes fit. With these that I ordered, the fit itself was variable between shirts that were labeled the same size. Not by a lot, but enough that shoulders were tight on some, sleeves loose on others. There were length differences between most to where some were just below the beltline and others nearly covered my back pockets. Despite my pickiness, I could probably live with most of that, but the collars on all but two (out of 6) were really wide, thin and loose. Not at all what I personally think of in a Beefy-T. The heavy duty collar was what I always liked most about these, but based on the ones I got, there isn't any QC with regard to sewing consistency, or even using the same neckband within the Beefy-T line. The loose ones not only have wider neck openings, but the band used to make the collar is thinner as well. Seriously bad enough that it makes me wonder if Hanes uses their website to unload defectives that don't pass QC.
Like someone else said, it's not worth the time or $ to send them back, so I unloaded them on less-picky friends.
I do like the two that are actually Beefy-Ts and not just labeled as such, but I'm probably not going to gamble that I'll get good ones online next time I need t-shirts.
All that said, Hanes usually makes pretty good stuff. I'm just not buying their t-shirts online any more.
