Positives and Negatives
First, be aware that in spite of the fact that other items, notably style H5580, have supersized themselves and lost any trimness of fit, these featherweight styles are either right in line with the size chart or even running a bit small. For the extra small, measured 15 inches across just below where the arms hole is -- or about 30 " around.
That certainly makes the extra small a true extra small -- size 0-2. I'd say it will work for no more than a 30-32 inch bust, 30 inch chest. This is fine, particularly as it is in line with the size chart, it just varies wildly from the other style I cited above for which the small is now more like what a medium or large was a few years ago --- even in that very Hanes style.
I have not actually worn this style as I ordered the XS. I am borderline XS/Small in many articles (about a 2-4), and in this case I miscalculated and would definitely need to go with the small.
As I will be returning the garment, I have not laundered it. Therefore I cannot comment on whether it shrinks and/or warps out of shape.
I can comment on COLOR --- the black cherry and American blue are both very complex moody colors.
Whether that is good or bad depends on your coloring, your expectations, and with what you intend to wear the top.
The Black Cherry is a muted or toasted crimson -- there is some blue in there somewhere but it only becomes apparent next to a brick or other warm hue, where upon a violet cast appears. The only color in my own wardrobe (which tends to black, snow white and jewel or flower colors) that I found worked with it was a very similar, complex deep crimson. With many colors and just on its own, the impression is of a dark red with brown at its heart, until, to come full circle in the commentary, it is placed next to a true earthy brown-embued red.
I think it may be a tricky color for many women. Those with really warm coloring will object to the violet tones in there someplace. Conversely, those with really cool coloring may find that this particular red is a little too close to brick to be flattering. On the other hand, it is an intriguing, complicated color and for some may be just right. If you have ever been through the seasonal color analysis process, my guess is this color would be best for the "winter" who is almost an "autumn" but not quite (fine, roll your eyes, but the seasonal color approach has its uses)
The American Blue on the other hand is actually a VERY cool color, a blue violet, or violet blue. Somehow I expected an American blue to be more a deep true blue or indigo, but that may simply be my subjective reaction to a name. The color is actually, to my eye, a rather pleasant and soft, slightly greyed hue that comes to life and into its glory with lavender-tinged pinks, lilacs, magentas, really blue reds, some purples and violets. You get the picture. It is NOT particularly good with standard blues or grays, and if there is any green in it -- as many traditional navies have, I cannot see it.
The fabric is really light weight and silky, appropriate, by my lights, for wearing with dressy skirts or suits, but questionable for rougher use. It will need to be worn quite loose fitting. Thin as it is, a tight fit will be a disaster. Think of it as a substitue for a silk blouse.
As I stated, I have NOT washed what I ordered since I am returning the items, so once again, cannot comment on whether the fabric shrinks, or ---- as has been suggested by others, stretches badly out of alignment with only one laundering. Obviously if the latter is the case, it is a major problem.
P.S. The system forced me to say "yes" or "no" to whether I would recommend to a friend. The real answer is, "I don't know". I would need to know how it launders, and it also would depend on what use the friend had in mind.
